Today is Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the formal end of slavery in the U.S. in 1865. Following years of activism, Juneteenth has finally received long-awaited federal recognition earlier this week. Awesome grassroots work to support this recognition has been active for over 150 years. Globally, Black Lives Matter was the largest movement for racial equity since the Civil Rights era. There remains a long and challenging road ahead, but there is now greater global awareness on entrenched power structures and unconscious bias. We shall overcome. Unconditional compassion for all deeply honors the struggle for Equity and Justice for African Americans.
