Cultivating generosity puts us on the road to cultivating compassion. The road to cultivating compassion is laid with bricks of selflessness. Like a teeter totter, when our ego clinging is reduced, automatically our love and compassion rise. Generosity begins the journey. Giving has many facets. Giving material things like giving food, clothing, shelter, or money, giving emotional support, giving a smile, giving forgiveness, giving gratitude, and giving advice on how to embrace a meaningful dharma life, are the many faces of generosity. This puts us on the path of Bodhicitta leading to complete Enlightenment.
