Feelings of guilt are destructive as we discussed in the last post. But how do we get rid of guilt? We recognize guilt as an old habit, often from childhood. So, this will take time to overturn. Observing our inner thoughts and feelings in the present moment – mindfulness – is the key to recognizing feelings of guilt. Convincing ourselves over and over again that guilt is harmful to our health, both physical and mental, motivates us and gives courage to change. Without this conviction, overturning guilt becomes even harder. Take it a step at a time. Remind yourself over and over again that you are valuable. None of us are perfect. We all have strengths and weaknesses. The bottom line is that we are valuable.
