When we are feeling good, spread it to others. Naturally our joy radiates to others. Imagining others receiving our joy can also be contagious. When we are feeling down, take others’ suffering and give them, as well as yourself, whatever is needed. Link it to our breathing. This tonglen practice of taking and giving transforms our mood bringing more joy. This joy goes out to others in a continuous cycle that spirals up. Whatever our situation, imagine using it to make others happy. By doing this, we also become happier.
