Liberation and enlightenment

When the water is murky and the environment toxic, it is easy to get snagged in the mud and weeds. The Buddha’s first teachings of the 4 Noble Truths taught us that life is the pits, it is miserable. But then he taught there is something better, much better – liberation and enlightenment. The good news is that since misery has its causes, these are replaceable with causes for liberation. He taught us how to do this. When we feel down, or too high and excited, remember the big picture. Remember compassion and wisdom, the causes for liberation for both ourself and for others.
