Life is up and down. This is the nature of samsara. It is never fully satisfying, even when things are going “well.” This is excellent to remember. It helps us reduce our attachment to the ordinary things of this life, our body and our ego. Reducing our ego brings humility. This is the central pillar of a healthy life. Reducing attachment brings renunciation. It is a mental attitude. Giving away everything you own, might foster more attachment by missing them. Similarly, living in a palace with little attachment might reduce attachment. Renunciation is an attitude, recognizing things are like illusions. It is the foundation for deeper compassion. Reduced attachment to our ego, naturally open our heart for others. We do not devalue ourself, rather we value others more. Healthy self-confidence comes naturally.
