His Holiness the Dalai Lama often says kindness is his religion. Being kind is powerful, but not always easy. When someone is trying to take advantage of us, to set boundaries and protect ourself is kindness. Another person harming us causes not only us to suffer, but also him/her/them. For he/her/them will suffer in the future when the negative karma ripens. Similarly, when someone attempts to harm another person, not only will the other person suffer, but also the person doing the harming. Acting out of kindness for both parties, we try to stop the harm, if we are able to do it safely. A religion of kindness is not only vast, it is also profound.
