Living graciously in gratitude allows life to sparkle from the inside. It focuses our experience through the lens of goodness and joy. It allows us to have optimistic hope, while maintaining a realistic backup plan in the event of trouble. Without hope we lose our pizzazz as inspiration and creativity wanes. Not preparing for trouble, we can be caught off guard and get hurt. Hope tempered with realism allows grace to flow. Hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. It is a good middle way approach to life.
