What is true global leadership?
It is NOT just about leaders in politics and business, but also everyone from all walks of life. We would like to take this opportunity to explore global leadership, and practices that will enhance it. We will discover how to bring happiness into successful leadership, to become global leaders ourselves and train the next generation as educators to further cultivate resilience and compassion towards oneself and others. Mindfulness and other meditation will be practiced experientially as well as explained intellectually. On a worldwide level, This theme is already being studied and practiced in several countries, but may be a “new” concept for Japan. We hope to not only introduce “True Global Leadership” during this program but also continue to develop this in the future in Japan, especially for educators and teachers.

Introduction from Dr.Barry at Previous Global Leadership seminar
Good evening. It’s nice to be with you. I would like to say a few words about cultivating global leadership. This is for educators and for teachers.
I would like to talk about global responsibility as one avenue of cultivating global leadership. Global responsibility involves a number of different things, cultivating peaceful, happy, honest and caring lifestyle.
Now we as HVI would like to offer a program of cultivating global responsibility, and we would start by talking about honesty and integrity, and particularly transparency and lack of hypocrisy.
Along with cultivating honesty and integrity, naturally arises respect. This respect is both ways, it’s respect for the other person, and also cultivating respect for ourself. Once we’ve gone that far, with honesty and integrity and respect, then naturally trust begins to arise. And when trust begins to arise, then genuine friendships grow. And with genuine, long lasting, often life-long lasting friendships, then we find more meaning in our lives. And we also find the others need the same thing. And then we develop healthy self-confidence. Healthy self-confidence is putting nobody down. It’s not putting the other person down, and it’s not putting myself down. And cultivating these kinds of ways of living naturally moves into enhancing our compassion, our caring, our sense of altruism.
So how do we cultivate these qualities? We would spend a fair amount of time talking about different ways to cultivate more compassion, caring, altruistic attitude. And by doing this, we will find, we will become happier. This leads to a sense of meaning in our lives, which often unfortunately is absent, And then this leads to a very healthy, happy and productive leadership on a global level through cultivating global responsibility.
Now, training global leaders and training global responsibility is not new. This is something that’s already going on in many countries of the world. In America, for example, in the State of Wisconsin, in many of the school districts, this kind of humanistic ethics, this kind of secular ethics, this kind of approach to honesty, integrity, this approach to respect and trust, the qualities we talked about, are already being introduced into the school systems beginning with kindergarten level and going up.
This is happening in many of provinces in Canada, in many parts of Germany, UK, and other countries around the world. So this is not something brand new. But it may be a bit newer for Japan. But on a worldwide level, it’s something already happening. So let’s develop this in Japan. And we will stay current with the rest of the world doing the same thing.
