Compassion – the natural capacity of the human heart to feel concern for and connection with another human being – constitutes a basic aspect of our nature. It is common to all human beings and animals. It is the wellspring for our own happiness. All ethical teachings nurture this innate and precious quality. It can be developed and perfected limitlessly. It can shine like a thousand million billion stars in the dark night sending out infinite unconditional love.
