Lecture in Kyoto (Dr. Barry Kerzin)
“Prescription for Happiness” for Caregivers
– Achieving wellbeing through mindfulness and compassion
Wellbeing is an inner state of feeling well independent of outer circumstances. Mindfulness monitors our inner life of thoughts and emotions. Compassion modulates our inner attitudes moving away from a narrow selfish perspective to a broader perspective encompassing the needs of others. Ironically this concern for others also fills us with meaning and joy. Compassion broadens our attitude to include others’ wellbeing. Meditation quiets our mind and heart bringing tranquility, less internal chatter, and broader perspective.
