The Buddha taught many different teachings often from different angles. We all have different dispositions and periods in our lives when we are more or less receptive. Please take all these teachings as complementary. Try one approach, and if it is not effective move to another. If the emptiness approach is too difficult now, try working directly on reducing anger, jealousy, and pride through recognizing anger early, the cloud imagination, appreciation, and humility. Keep coming back to understanding emptiness through reading, thinking, and listening. Practicing compassion is our default. Always return to love and compassion as our foundation.
