When others out of envy Mistreat me

We are continuing our journey through this classic short text written about 1000 years ago on cultivating compassion. Verse 5 from this text, ‘8 Verses of Mind Training’ by Langri Thangpa,’ reads:
“When others out of envy
Mistreat me with slander and abuse,
May I take defeat upon myself (without putting myself down)
And offer the triumph to others.” This verse is all about forgiveness. Forgiving others is often a solo experience. We feel better by letting go of hurts brought on by others. We feel better by letting go of self-induced hurts. Not only do we feel better, we feel lighter – both physically and emotionally. A smile comes back to our face. We may skip for joy like a child.
