We forget how closely connected we are with others

We forget how closely connected we are with others. When we expand our mind, either believing in reincarnation, or at least open to the possibility, the possible connections increase exponentially. Reincarnation implies a continuity of mind that changes from moment to moment. It has no beginning. Thus, we have had countless connections with others. In fact, everyone has been our mother countless times. Yet we forget. If we remembered this fact, it would be hard to get upset with anyone. It would be hard to be unkind with anyone. It would be hard to be competitive with anyone. It would be hard to hurt anyone. And since we have been everyone else’s mother, it would be hard to get down on ourself. Even if we are not convinced about the continuity of mind (moment to moment), and therefore reincarnation, to think this way helps us respect and love others, all others including ourself!
