Today is Democracy Day for Tibet. We pray democratic institutions quickly move from refugee Tibetan communities in exile in India to all Tibetan people in Tibet. When I was at university, my neighbor was from India. After securing an engineering job, he and his wife opened a small motel, called the Ho Hum Motel. I never appreciated the name until years later. He was a meditator, who taught me meditation. Ho Hum is like skipping while singing, carefree, and joyous. In the moment. All is well. We all have this capacity, but it must be nurtured. Hindrances must be reduced. Slow down, and mentally skip, carefree, silently singing, in the moment, while wisps of fresh air blow the sound of “ho hum” and democracy in your face.
