Genuine humility is a true mark of a sincere practitioner. It denotes an understanding and realization of interdependence. The meaning of interdependence is twofold – it includes both compassion and wisdom. Recognizing the deep interdependence of all living beings as sisters and brothers of one human and animal family, living on, over, and under mother earth, is compassion. Recognizing that nothing at all exists on its own is wisdom. Things, especially our ego, appear independent. We get puffed up or deflated suffering imposter syndrome. In reality everything is dependent; on the deepest level, dependent on a name. Realizing both interdependence as compassion and as the wisdom of selflessness naturally cultivates humility. This opens our hearts further to love and compassion for all living beings and their home, mother earth.
